pMote and Maemo 5 on Nokia N900

Dear Friends,

Got my brandnew mobile device Nokia N900 now!
So my first impression is that it is not as thick as I thought it would be: nearly 20mm!
I'm really happy about how good it feels in your hand so I do not miss the 13mm of the iPhone nor the 14mm of the brandnew Motorola Milestone.
I like to have more features and free software instead.

Running Maemo 5 is fun - and I decided to develop a Maemo 5 version of pMote during Xmas days. So keep patient.

Here are the 1st impressions about my N900:

  • battery life can be nearly doubled by training (let the device run completely out of battery and recharge it to maximum); turn off bluetooth, and automatic wlan searching
  • video adapter works nicely and is great for working with the device over a longer time; also for presentation purposes if you want to teach N900, Internet or so - try it!
  • Internet radio is working perfectly
  • couldn't get the FM transmitter to work - subject to play around during Xmas
  • migration of contacts and calender and other data from my beloved E61 worked perfectly easy via Bluetooth connection between both devices
  • contact data is a poor app on N900, no intelligent searching, etc.
  • sound is good, also with external speakers

So that's it for the time beeing. Next review to come after Xmas, hopefully with a new App called pMote for Maemo!

Cheers, Peter

Welcome to the World of pMote!

I highly welcome you to my new blog called pmote.com.

Its main purpose is to share with you a little tool called pMote!
pMote is a little mobile application that gives you the chance to take all your data with you in a consistant and distributable way. So you now can share your data in the same format with friends, colleagues, partners etc.

You say - that's not new! You're right - but the truth is, pMote gives you the chance to hold large sets of data of different kinds of origin in one device - parallel, distributable and secure.

So pMote works for me, for my family, friends and colleagues and it's getting more and more friends every day. So if you care whether pMote can do something for you download one or more free pMotes and test it, or build your own pMote. Enjoy it!

During the initial phase of going public we decided to give only a limited amount of users access to our site to enable them to build their own pMotes. So if you can't wait to become an early bird and to test pMote contact us to get your account id and password.

The number of pMotes is encreasing from day to day so if you could not find a pMote yet that fit your needs - I encourage you to come back every day to check whether somebody built one which is of interest to you - or subscribe to our newsletter to stay informed about new exciting pMotes!

Regards
Peter Mote
